QRP applies d-STATION for quality control in 3D metal printing

3D scanning meets 3D metal printing

3D metal printing is a rapidly expanding manufacturing technology with unique strengths that open up more possibilities for flexible product development, enhanced performance, and shorter lead times. The big challenge: Relatively high costs combined with extra support structure. Since 2015, QRP applies AICON’s d-STATION for the inspection of performance-critical parts. In addition, the company has carried out a tolerance trade study with the d-STATION.

3D Quality inspection of sheet metal hole patterns and trimmings

Safety from A to D: The production of automobiles can no longer be imagined without using special struts for optimum stabilization of vehicles. In order for these metal sheet components to seamlessly integrate into the vehicle body, changes in shape as well as position and size deviations are verified with the help of three-dimensional scan data.

3D Quality inspection of plastic parts

The Wirthwein AG, a well-known German manufacturer of plastic components for the automotive, railway, electronics and home appliances industries as well as for medical science products, employs a Breuckmann scanning system in order to process the recorded 3D data of their components for evaluations with respect to geometry, shape and position tolerances and CAD comparisons.

Successful process optimization in the production of forging dies

Cutting edge portable and flexible 3D digitizing technology from AICON, the naviSCAN, enables Wyman Gordon to achieve significant cost reductions in their repair procedures.

3D Quality inspection of gear transmission casings for commercial vehicles

The company ZF Friedrichshafen AG is a leading manufacturer of gear transmissions in the field of commercial vehicles, developing and producing technologies worldwide for driveline and chassis technology.

The complex gear transmission casings for commercial vehicles are made of aluminum using the method of pressure die-casting. Based on the casing created in the CAD system, die-casting molds are produced to serve as shaping molds for the casing components.

3D Quality inspection and race car dimension measurement in Formula 1™

Exciting overtaking manoeuvres, best lap times, enthusiastic fans and
cutting edge technology on the race track: That’s Formula 1™. This is where product quality is measured in milliseconds!

To achieve exactly that, Pierluca Magaldi, Head of Quality Assurance of the Italian Formula 1™ team Toro Rosso, enters a naviSCAN into the race.

3D Quality inspection of crankcases for four-stroke engines

Highly complex engine crankcases containing components rotating up to 10.000 revolutions per minute (rpm): This is where precision down to the millimeter is required!

Quality is considered a key factor for the competitiveness and success of the company, which is why the entire production process has to comply with very high quality standards.

Optical quality control in precision casting: The third dimension of turbine wheels

Quality control as a metrological challenge: The quality of precision casting products down to the minute micrometer can only be accomplished through the components’ third dimension.

A leading manufacturer in the metal processing industry, in its 300 years of corporate history the company Zollern has developed and perfected a broad spectrum of metal treatment and processing techniques in which high standard requirements with regard to integral quality inspections have always played a significant role: Thanks to the high precision three-dimensional scan data generated by the stereoSCAN, molds, wax templates and finished cast parts are inspected with the necessary efficiency and accuracy.

3D Quality inspection of full-mold casting models

Casting molds for cylinder heads, engine blocks, camshafts, tooling parts and many more – the many different production methods applied in modern casting technology have become an integral part in the production process of the most diverse lines of industrie.

Full-mold casting (an evaporative-pattern casting process using the method of lost-foam casting) is a frequently applied method for the production of light metal cast parts as well as iron and steel cast components. For the quality of the end product, the exact pattern made of expanded polystyrene foam is of pivotal importance.
